God moments are very significant experiences that have great meaning for us and for other people. Such events may include people, animals, angels, saints, circumstances, or anything in God's creation, and always involve an encounter with the Divine. Perhaps they are meant to challenge or change us, encourage and inspire us, motivate, comfort, or prepare us. Sometimes they occur over time for reasons that we do not immediately understand.

We can be confident that God always loves us, remains with us, and is our strength and our hope. Our mission is to know God and serve Him, always loving in greater measure. May the stories in “God Moments” help you to recognize these special moments in your own life and encourage you to consider their purpose.

Reviews

"There are 1,440 minutes in a day, but any one of those, at any time, can become a God Moment. If you've had one, you know: They're whispers from our loving God, a reminder that He is our ever-present strength."

—Nancy Carabio Belanger, award-winning author of Olivia and the Little Way and Olivia's Gift

"In God Moments," Michele Elena Bondi has gathered spiritual flowers from many sources to form a rich bouquet. It reminds us that we can never look back without seeing the hand of God, guiding, directing, and uplifting our lives. Sometimes we are proud of ourselves - mostly for the wrong reasons. Are not all our strengths a gift of God? Then again, we don't love ourselves? How can this be when God loves us, always and without reserves? How can we not love others, forgive others when God loves and forgives us? Michele brings forth these truths humbly, clearly, and with strong faith. Thank you, Michele! "God Moments" has touched me deeply."

—Gene X. Kortsha, author of One Man's Journey to Freedom: Escape From Behind the Iron Curtain

Have you ever experienced a “God Moment?” – a time in your life when God worked behind the scenes to move things in a certain direction. Some people refer to these as coincidences, mere situations of chance. For those who believe, Someone much more powerful is pulling the strings. “God moments are very special and significant events that have great meaning and purpose. They may involve angels, saints, people, animals, or anything in God’s great creation. Always they involve an encounter with the Divine. Perhaps they are meant to challenge or change us, encourage and inspire us, motivate us, sooth us, or prepare us. Sometimes they occur over time for reasons that we do not immediately understand. . . Our challenge is to recognize, believe, take action, trust, or sometimes wait, always loving in greater measure.”

In “God Moments: Stories that Inspire, Moments to Remember,” Michele Elena Bondi has compiled a collection of personal stories that reveal God acting in our lives. Organized into the categories of Love, Discernment, Faith, Healing, Suffering, Miracles, and Reconciliation, the essays share both intimate and public moments of contact with God.

For example, one mother tells of her eighth-grade son expressing his need for space. She had put her hands on his shoulders in front of his friends, and he removed them and said “Bye, Mom.” She understood the developmental stage, but was still hurt by it. Yet, it was a God moment because it caused her to reflect on her own relationship with God. “How does God feel when he desires to be with us and we respond, sometimes in front of others, ‘Bye, God.’ Perhaps we think to ourselves, ‘Not now’ or ‘Not in front of my friends’ or ‘I do not want to be out of my comfort zone’ or ‘What will people think?’ Does God feel rejected, slighted, or hurt like I did when I was so glad to see my son and he wanted me to go away? Perhaps we reject God without even realizing it.”

Another person tells of how a random phone call to a hotel led to an opportunity to talk about her faith with a man who desperately needed to hear it. She writes, “I was totally moved by this experience. God can use us at any time if we just make ourselves available. I’m sure that man’s wife has been praying for him for years. With God all things are possible. So I’m praying for that man and asked me to contact me at any time.”

“God Moments” is a testament to the many ways God works in our lives. God loves each of us so much. “Share in the delight God has for every person He created. His works are constantly on display and there is a show going on every moment. Admission is always free.” “God Moments” will encourage you to be more open to His plan for your own life and to see Him at work in your daily life. It is a beautiful book that will do much good.

"Even devout believers sometimes feel that God remains somewhere far away, distant and uninvolved in their daily lives. But, as Michele Bondi Bottesi suggests in her book God Moments, God draws near in everyday situations. When one opens one’s eyes, one can see God at work—providing, caring, and teaching.

In a collection of short devotional stories, Bondi Bottesi and her fellow contributors share how mundane activities such as cooking, helping at a child’s school, or even doing laundry may become opportunities for God to speak into a life. A leaky washing machine, for example, tries her patience, but ultimately teaches her to see God’s gifts; frustrated attempts to donate toys ultimately show her that God works when she cooperates with his plans. These “God moments” may challenge, encourage, or simply teach. And they may come through friends, animals, saints, unexpected events, or everyday miracles.

Bondi Bottesi begins by sharing how God works in little things, but she gradually reveals how he is near during the trials of life, such as when life- long dreams are dashed, a loved one dies, or one faces a serious illness. These “God moments” are not trivial. And, Bondi Bottesi says, while God certainly shows up during religious services, unless one watches and listens for God at work throughout each day, one will miss many lessons and lose an intimate connection with him. Bondi Bottesi gently urges readers to realize that God longs for real relationship, not just rote religious service or knowledge.

A psychologist, Bondi Bottesi has published several articles and books, all rooted in her deep Catholic faith. Her writing reflects her calling as a mother and her passion for her faith, both of which make this book accessible. The stories all come from her real-life experiences or those of her fellow contributors. The breadth of stories and writers not only ensure that the book will be relatable to a number of readers, but also demonstrates that Bondi Bottesi’s main message can prove true in believer’s life.

Catholics like Bondi Bottesi will be inspired and challenged by this book, which celebrates the intimate faith many adherents crave. But because the book assumes familiarity with the Catholic tradition, non-Catholics may find occasional references to Catholic dogma and ritual a slight stumbling block. However, any Christian believer uninhibited by Catholic theology will also appreciate this discovery of God in the everyday."

A Review of "Your Personal Apostolate" by Ellen Gable Hrkach

Your Personal Apostolate: Accepting and Sharing the Love of God
Michele Elena Bondi
Joseph Karl Publishing

“God is at work in you,” says Michele Elena Bondi, author of Your Personal Apostolate: Accepting and Sharing the Love of God. She continues...“Each of us has a personal apostolate or a mission, that we fulfill throughout the course of our lives...an apostolate begins the moment a person is created and comes to fruition over time...Our mission is fulfilled in every moment...critical to our success is our willingness to accept, return and share the Love of God.”

With such philosophies, this book has the potential of touching many hearts with its message of service and love (and I’m certain it already has).

Each chapter begins with a relevant and beautiful biblical quote, then a teaching, followed by a personal reflection (including the author’s experiences with family life, a difficult divorce and the traumatic story of how she happens upon the scene of an accident) and finally, information and questions for the reader. The chapters include essential topics such as “We Are Loved,” “Following the Holy Family,” “Accepting God’s Love,” Loving God Back,” “Sharing Jesus’s Passion,” and many more.

This wonderful book is filled with so many great quotes, not only from Scripture but from saints and others as well as from the author herself: “Before each of us was even born, we already began impacting the lives of others...” is so true and really is the basis for the respect and love of human life from the moment of conception. Fr. John Hardon’s quote “No human act is sterile. We are writing history for eternity,” is one of the many other powerful quotes the author utilizes.

I highly recommend this wonderful, inspiring and beautiful book to everyone, but most especially to those who wish to understand their own personal apostolate or mission.

Feast of St. Therese Of Lisieux, France- October 1st

"I will spend my Heaven in doing good upon earth."

What a tremendous gift we have in St. Therese of Lisieux, a stellar example of God’s love in action through His Creation. She is a powerful example of how much God values each and every one of us, and has a place in salvation history for every one of us, no exceptions.

What a holy family she had! Her parents had considered entering into religious life, but it was through their vocation to marriage that the world would come to know of the Martin Family. When her father Louis met her mother Azelie (Zelie) he was a thirty-four year old watchmaker, and she was a successful businesswoman making Alencon lace. They married in 1858, and were very devoted to the Eucharist. Therese was one of nine children. Two brothers and a sister died in infancy, and her sister Helene died at the age of five.

The Martins lived an exemplary Catholic life. Therese's mother was a Third Order Franciscan, and her aunt, Sr. Marie-Dosithee (Zelie’s older sister), was a Visitandine sister. Therese and her four surviving sisters all entered into religious life. Four (including St. Therese, the youngest) entered Carmel at Lisieux, and one entered the Visitation Convent at Caen.
In honor of her very special feast day, some of the writings of St. Therese follow in purple, and prayers for her intercession are in red.

“He wants me to love Him because He has forgiven me, not much, but everything. He did not wait for me to love Him with a great love, like Magdalene’s, but made me see that He had loved me first, with an infinite providence, so that now I may love Him in return even unto folly.” 1

Miraculous Prayer To The Little Flower

O Little Flower of Jesus,
ever consoling troubled souls with heavenly graces,
in your unfailing intercession I place my confident trust.
From the heart of our divine Savior,
petition the blessings of which I stand in greatest need
(Here mention your intention).
Shower upon me your promised roses of virtue and grace,
Dear St. Therese,
so that swiftly advancing in sanctity and perfect love of neighbor,
I may someday receive the crown of life eternal.
Amen.

“I have received countless graces this year, but the one I value most is the one of understanding the precept of charity in all its fullness. I had never fully understood before what Our Lord meant when He said: “The second commandment is like to the first. Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.” (Matt. 22:39). I had concentrated on loving God, but in loving Him, I came to realize the meaning of those other words of His: “Not everyone that saith to Me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the Kingdom of Heaven, but he that doth the will of My Father” (CF. Matt. 7:21)

“Now Jesus made known to me His Will at the Last Supper, when He gave His Apostles His New Commandment: “Love one another as I have loved you.” (John 13:34). I set to work to discover how Jesus had loved them. I found that He had not loved them for their natural qualitities, for they were ignorant and take up with earthly things, yet He called them His friends (John 15:15) and His brothers (John 20:17) and wanted to have them with Him in His Father’s Kingdom; He was ready to die on the Cross to make this possible, saying: “Greater love than this no man hath, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” (John 15:13).

“Meditating on these divine words, I saw only too well how very imperfect was my love for my Sisters; I did not really love them as Jesus loves them. I see now that true charity consists in bearing with the faults of those about us, never being surprised at their weaknesses, but edified at the least sign of virtue. I see above all that charity must not remain hidden in the bottom of our hearts, for “no man lighteth a candle and putteth it in a hidden place, nor under a bushel; but upon a candlestick, that they who come in may see the light.” (Luke 11:33). It seems to me that this candle is the symbol of charity; it must shine out not only to cheer those we love best, but ALL those who are of the household.” 2

Act of Oblation as Victim to God's Merciful Love
(Composed by St. Thérèse)

In order that my life may be one act of perfect Love,
I offer myself as a victim of holocaust to Thy merciful Love,
imploring Thee to consume me unceasingly,
and to allow the floods of infinite tenderness
gathered up in Thee to overflow into my soul,
so that I may become a very martyr to Thy Love, O my God.
May this martyrdom,
after having prepared me to appear in Thy presence,
free me from this life at the last and my soul take flight --
without delay --
into eternal embrace of Thy Merciful Love.
O my Beloved!
I desire at every beat of my heart
to renew this oblation an infinite number of times,
'till the shadows retire,' and everlastingly
I can tell Thee my love face to face.

“How much benefit have I received from the beauties of nature, bestowed in such abundance. How they raise me to Him who placed such wonders in this land of exile which is only to last a day.” 3

“Thou knowest well that my own martyrdom is thy love, oh Sacred Heart of Jesus.” 4

Prayer to St. Therese

O Little Flower of Jesus,
you have shown yourself so powerful in your intercession,
so tender and compassionate toward those
who honor you and invoke you in suffering and distress,
that I kneel at your feet with perfect confidence
and beseech you most humbly and earnestly
to take me under your protection in my present necessity
and to obtain for me this favor I ask
(mention your request).
Recommend my request to Mary,
the merciful Queen of Heaven,
that she may plead my cause with you
before the throne of Jesus, her divine Son.
Cease not to intercede for me until my request is granted.
St. Theresa of the Child Jesus, pray for us.
Amen.

~~ from "Prayers for Today,"
published by Leaflet Missal Co. For Healing

"Oh Jesus, I beg Thee only for Thy peace, for peace, and especially for love, without limits and without bounds. Would, O my Jesus, that for Thy love I could be a martyr! Oh, give me martyrdom of soul or martyrdom of body, or rather, give me both!" 5

Dearest St. Therese,
you are the Little Flower of Jesus.
Pray this day that I may be
made well in body, mind, and spirit.
Help me to always see, as you so clearly did,
that my sufferings and trials are meant
to cleanse and purify me so that I may be
more worthy to receive God's unending Love.
Amen.

St. Therese Prayer for Vocations
St. Therese, Little Flower,
you are "love in the heart of the Church."
You dedicated your life as a Carmelite Nun
for good Priests to serve God's people.
From your privileged place in God's Heart,
I ask you to stir up responsive hearts in young men
to follow Jesus as good and holy priests and religious.
Bless our Church with loyal servants of the Gospel.
Renew our Church in love by igniting
the love of the young men Jesus calls.
We need your help, intercession, and intervention today,
Beloved Patron of Priests.
Amen.

~~ taken from prayer card issued by the Society of the Little Flower

O Little Therese of the Child Jesus,
Please pick a rose for me
From the heavenly gardens
And send it to me
As a message of love.
O little flower of Jesus,
Ask God today to grant the favors
I now place with confidence
In your hands.
(Mention your specific requests)
St. Therese,
help me to always believe,
As you did,
In God's great love for me,
So that I might imitate your"Little Way" each day.
Amen.

God is at work in St. Therese of Lisieux.

God is also at work in you!

Today's blog is dedicated to Mary J. Jeffers and Nancy Carabio Belanger, friends of St. Therese and also friends of mine.

Letters to Priests, Thanking the Men of the Catholic Church: an Interactive Book Designed to Provide Support for Catholics

For immediate release

By Anne Hughes, Tuesday, September 21, 2010

Letters to Priests, Thanking The Men of the Catholic Church is an interactive book designed to provide support for Catholics. The book is a collection of inspiring stories from around the world. The stories highlight the significant role a Catholic Priest played in the lives of Catholics who felt honored and compelled to share their stories with others in hopes of encouraging and promoting Vocations. Contributions of letters are still being accepted.

You may submit a letter to www.letterstopriests.com and will receive an email back from Anne Hughes. Anne and her sister Teena will help you edit your story and encourage you to share details of your struggles so that Catholics and non-Catholics may share in your recovery from grief to joy.

You may read several stories on the website. The letters are testimonials of the often overlooked benefit of providing your children with an opportunity to turn to their faith in every corner of the world. Stories of college students facing surgery alone and scared pick up a phone and call a priest who stays at their bedside, half a world away from their family.

Stories of priests who listen to our pain, and reach into their soul for words to relieve us of guilt, shame, anger, and disappointment in ourselves. These healing words are being shared, often years later, in a testimonial of their strength and healing kindness.

Please share your story and thank the priest who reached into his soul in an effort to heal you. Your healing journey during a divorce or grief from the loss of a loved one my provide inspiration to those not ready to talk with a priest about their own pain. Your story may encourage someone considering the priesthood. Your story may save the life of someone who has traveled in your shoes, but does not currently have the strength of the Catholic Church behind them.

Join us, write your story, and share the strength of our faith during such dire economic times. Our friends and neighbors need encouraging words. Priests need to be reminded their efforts have impacted our lives. This is a gift from the laity. We are the strength of the Catholic Church. Live up to it.

"The priesthood is the sublimest dignity

that God can confer on a human being."

Our Pulitzer Prize in Letters Nominee

Joseph Karl Publishing is proud to announce a book that will change your life forever.

Coming December, 2010

The first 15 years of his life were spent in exile. After returning to Albania, he experienced firsthand the martyrdom of his homeland through World War II, the civil war that followed, and the subsequent brutal communist domination. He was forced to leave his medical studies, imprisoned, released, and then sent to work in one of the poorest regions in the North. While forced into hard labor he received the physical conditioning necessary for his tenth attempt at escaping the country. He left behind his family and the woman he loved to risk a fate worse than death--capture—hoping for a future and a life free from oppression.

The miraculous story of One Man’s Journey to Freedom: Escape From Behind the Iron Curtain provides a powerfully moving account of the heroic resistance against the destruction of humanitarian principles and persecution behind the Iron Curtain, and reminds us that history could repeat itself at any time and in any place.

The book is full of such beautiful pieces to read along with very interesting events. All is skillfully and truthfully told." -Gjon Bucaj

One Man’s Journey to Freedom is Gene’s detailed account of his life history…set against the backdrop of the martyrdom of his homeland. This book not only adds to American historical literature but sheds some light on a neglected part of American history in the Balkans. " -Ardian Ndreca

Prayer of St. John Vianney

I love You, O my God,
And my only desire is to love You
Until the last breath of my life.
I love You, O my infinitely lovable God,
And I would rather die loving You,
Than live without loving You.
I love You, Lord
And the only grace I ask is to love You eternally…
My God, if my tongue cannot say in every moment that I love You,
I want my heart to repeat it to You as often as I draw breath.

God wants to work through you.

Let Him.

Jesus Wants to be Received by Each One of Us

Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity: He comes where He is welcomed.

I am not kidding you. This is how it went down.

More than five years ago but less than ten, my children and I moved into our new home. The name of our street has Mary in it. St. Joseph helped us find the house.

Just a few years before that, while we still lived at our other home, the good Lord invited me to attend daily Mass. He didn't command me to attend. Instead, He gently and very lovingly invited me. Even though I was a cradle Catholic, and strange as seems to me in hindsight, attending daily Mass was not something I had ever thought about or considered. However, I did have a great desire to draw closer to God, so participating in Holy Mass each day made so much sense!

One day soon after we moved into our current home, I happened to look at the big tree in the backyard. I so enjoyed being in the yard and looking at all the trees, plants, and flowers. I kid you not, there on the trunk I saw the image of a chalice. Behind the chalice was another chalice, and behind it was another one, and behind that one was another one, etc. The chalices went on forever. It was sort of like the effect you see when looking at an object reflected from one mirror into another; the image seems to go on forever.

I knew this for certain: God wanted me to receive not only the Body of Christ during Holy Communion, He also wanted me to receive His Precious Blood. Again, it seems strange now, but I had never even considered it.

Not long after that I was working at my computer and there on the screen was the command to type the words that were visible in the box in order to proceed. The words were "cup blood."

When God knows I am in need of confirmation or clarification, He always confirms what He wants me to do.

Does He do that with you as well? How has He invited you into greater Divine intimacy? Was that something that you, too, never even considered doing until He brought it up?

God our Father is always present in our lives loving us, guiding us, consoling us, and helping us, as a loving Father would.

Just last year I was at a funeral, and during Holy Communion, after receiving Jesus' Body, I approached the person holding the chalice with His Precious Blood. As I raised the chalice, something happened that I had never before encountered. Warmth emanated from the chalice, and I could feel that warmth on my face.

Later I shared the experience with a dear friend and Marian Catechist, and asked her what it meant. She replied, "He is living."

Jesus wants to come to each one of us,
Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity,
during Holy Communion.

Accept the tremendous love God has for you.
Receive our loving Savior worthily in Holy Communion.
Then, share His love with others.

Patrice Fagnant-MacArthur's Review of "God Moments: Stories that Inspire, Moments to Remember"

God Moments: Stories that Inspire, Moments to Remember
by Michele Elena Bondi
Rochester: Joseph Karl Publishing, 2010

In “God Moments: Stories that Inspire, Moments to Remember,” Michelle Elena Bondi has compiled a collection of personal stories that reveal God acting in our lives.

"God Moments" will be available late September 2010 from Joseph Karl Publishing, www.godisatworkinyou.com, and also on Amazon.com.

God Moments: Stories that Inspire, Moments to Remember

Michele Bondi Bottesi

Even devout believers sometimes feel that God remains somewhere far away, distant and uninvolved in their daily lives. But, as Michele Bondi Bottesi suggests in her book God Moments, God draws near in everyday situations. When one opens one’s eyes, one can see God at work—providing, caring, and teaching.

In a collection of short devotional stories, Bottesi and her fellow contributors share how mundane activities such as cooking, helping at a child’s school, or even doing laundry may become opportunities for God to speak into a life. A leaky washing machine, for example, tries her patience, but ultimately teaches her to see God’s gifts; frustrated attempts to donate toys ultimately show her that God works when she cooperates with his plans. These “God moments”
may challenge, encourage, or simply teach. And they may come through friends, animals, saints, unexpected events, or everyday miracles.

Bottesi begins by sharing how God works in little things, but she gradually reveals how he is near during the trials of life, such as when life- long dreams are dashed, a loved one dies, or one faces a serious illness. These “God moments” are not trivial. And, Bottesi says, while God certainly shows up during religious services, unless one watches and listens for God at work throughout each day, one will miss many lessons and lose an intimate connection with him. Bottesi gently urges readers to realize that God longs for real relationship, not just rote religious service or knowledge.

A psychologist, Bottesi has published several articles and books, all rooted in her deep Catholic faith. Her writing reflects her calling as a mother and her passion for her faith, both of which make this book accessible. The stories all come from her real-life experiences or those of her fellow contributors. The breadth of stories and writers not only ensure that the book will be relatable to a number of readers, but also demonstrates that Bottesi’s main message can prove true in believer’s life.

Catholics like Bottesi will be inspired and challenged by this book, which celebrates the intimate faith many adherents crave. But because the book assumes familiarity with the Catholic tradition, non-Catholics may find occasional references to Catholic dogma and ritual a slight stumbling block. However, any Christian believer uninhibited by Catholic theology will also appreciate this discovery of God in the everyday.

A Teen's Thoughts on Making the Most of the Time We Are Given

A guest blog by Andre Bottesi, 15
Last year in September, someone dear to us was told that she had stage 3 cancer; we were devastated. Cancer was something I would always push to the back of my mind since it never pertained to me or anyone I knew. I would never have imagined anyone in my family with cancer, but it became a reality.
Yeah, I was scared. I felt like there was nothing I could do because there was no way I could help. I am not a doctor and I don't know the cure for cancer. I am just a kid. Then my mom helped me realize that I actually could help. My family member needed support, and when she needed my family and me to be there, we were.
I was dealing with the emotions. I was thinking this wasn't happening; this doesn't happen to people like her. She is healthy and she eats healthy, too. But it does. Realizing this was hard to accept. Then my mom told me, "Andre, remember that we are only here for so long, so make the most of it." When she said that, I felt like she was giving up, but my mom was determined that our loved one would be okay.

While I was freaking out, imagine how our family member was taking this in.

What my mom said affected me; I am only here for a while, so I should make the most of my life. That doesn't mean I should do whatever I want and have fun all the time. I need to make the most of living my life, the way God wants me to live it. We waste so much time on pointless things that we forget we have a mission we are meant to accomplish. Time is ticking and there is no stopping it. If we mess up now, how can we be satisfied with ourselves?
It's now or never; so make a difference in the world today. We need to stay focused on what needs to be done instead of what we feel like doing. We should not waste much time now, for we may not have the same opportunity to cooperate with God later. It is in giving to others that we are truly satisfied.
It has been a year since my loved one was diagnosed with cancer. We prayed for her and supported her through her treatment, and now she is better. I am so happy that she is doing better and has returned to work.
I learned through this experience that making the most of your life is vital. Time is passing and I do not want to waste a minute of it.
Thank you, Andre, for sharing what you learned.
God is at work, in each one of us.
